The BJP and the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) have been unable to agree on the number of seats the two parties will contest in the Lok Sabha and assembly elections in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Both Narendra Modi, the BJP's prime ministerial candidate, and TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu are keen on the alliance. Mr Naidu, though, is unwilling to concede to the demands of the local BJP unit on the number of seats they want to contest on. The TDP points out that the BJP won only two assembly seats in 2009 in Andhra Pradesh whereas BJP leaders say that with the Narendra Modi factor and the goodwill enjoyed by the party in Telangana, they deserve more.
