Congress MP Rahul Gandhi stirred a fresh war of words today, as he criticised the lateral entry scheme to civil services. This comes just days after UPSC issued an advertisement seeking "talented and motivated Indian nationals" for lateral recruitment to various senior positions within the Union government. These positions include Joint Secretary, Director, and Deputy Secretary in 24 ministries, with a total of 45 posts up for grabs. Rahul Gandhi said that the centre has snatched away the rights of backward groups with lateral entry. BJP hit back, with Union minister Ashwini Vaishnaw saying that the idea of lateral entry was initiated by the UPA govt.
