Politics has peaked over the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) with Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal accusing the Centre today of planning to grant the rights of Indian citizens to illegal migrants. He also urged people to vote against the BJP in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls if the central government did not withdraw the Act. West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief Mamata Banerjee has urged people of her state not to register their names on the portal because it would lead to them declaring themselves as foreigners and losing their land and rights. This comes even as the BJP has accused the Opposition of stoking communal passion by spreading falsehoods. Now, this has become a war over history and a battle of narratives, with the BJP stressing civilisational bonds and duty, while the Opposition cites the constitution and principles of equality.
