AIIMS Director Dr Randeep Guleria says more cases of Black Fungus are being seen in India because of a large population with poorly controlled diabetes and unrestricted use of steroids in treatment of COVID-19. Mucormycosis cases came up in the first wave too, however, due to excessive use of steroids in the second wave, the cases are far more this time.
