In the eye of a storm in the courts and in Parliament, businessman Vijay Mallya tweeted saying he hadn't fled, and had every intention of returning to India and facing the judicial process, because as a parliamentarian, a Rajya Sabha MP, he understood the law of the land and the need to uphold it. But is he a fit case for expulsion from the Rajya Sabha? Has he violated conduct rules for an MP? Not only is he an MP, Mr Mallya is a member of important parliamentary committees including aviation. Mr Mallya is not the only businessman MP in Parliament and certainly not the first one to cross an ethical line, but isn't it time cases with a direct conflict of interest are dealt with more stringently by Parliament?
