Cabinet Clears Ordinance To Allow Hike In GST Cess On Cars

The Union Cabinet on Wednesday gave nod for an ordinance to allow raising of maximum compensation cess that can be levied on mid- and large-sized vehicles under GST to 25%, from 15%, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said. The ordinance is only an enabling law, he said, adding, that this does not mean that the cess will automatically increase to 25%.
