Massive wildfires continue to devastate Los Angeles, with at least 24 confirmed deaths and thousands of homes destroyed. California Governor Gavin Newsom has called the fires potentially the most catastrophic natural disaster in U.S. history. As of the weekend, wildfires have scorched more than 37,000 acres, and a rare "fire tornado" was reported. Over 12,000 structures have been damaged, and more than 100,000 people have been forced to evacuate. Firefighters received temporary relief as strong winds, which reached hurricane force, finally subsided. A thorough investigation is underway to determine the causes of the deadly blazes.
