There are concerns over the spread of the three lineages of a variant of the SARS-Cov-2 virus first seen in India, the B.1.617 strain. The World Health Organization (WHO) said in its weekly Covid epidemiology update that the B.1.617 variant with its sub variants has been found in 44 countries. The variant's rapid rise has triggered alarm in several countries, including the UK which has found it to be responsible for the second highest number of infections.
