"To be a patriot is to be self-critical," said historian Sunil Khilnani and warned that that we must "not conform to some stifling definition that North Korea or Stalinist Russia would use to define patriotism or nationalism." Speaking to NDTV on his new book Incarnations which in a way challenges the current reductionist discourse over history, he said, "the way we are caricaturing our history, it starts to make Amar Chitra Katha books look like serious historiography," something that is "not comic, but actually tragic".
