The turmoil in the CBI has turned the focus on Sterling Biotech, a scam-hit Gujarat based business group, wanted for fraud, and its links to CBI's deputy chief Rakesh Asthana, an officer of the Gujarat cadre.The CBI was in the process of probing whether Mr Asthana received any financial benefits from the Sandesara family, which ran Sterling Biotech. Starting in October 2017, the CBI and the ED initiated mutliple chargesagainst the group for Rs 5,400 crores of bank fraud as well as money laundering.
