Tamil Nadu is celebrating the harvest festival of Pongal on Wednesday. From this year, the day is also being celebrated as the Tamil New Year. As folk artists ushered in Pongal and the New Year, thousands of people in Chennai came to the streets during midnight to usher in the big day.
