Centre Begins Process To Make Justice DY Chandrachud Next Chief Justice
The government on Friday initiated process for appointment of Justice DY Chandrachud as next Chief Justice of India by writing to Chief Justice Uday Umesh Lalit to recommend his successor. As per the convention, sitting CJI will recommend his or her successor a month ahead of retirement. With the process being set in motion, Chief Justice Lalit cannot convene collegium meetings any longer for appointment of judges in higher judiciary.
