Footage shows heavy debris falling from the top of apartment buildings and blanketing the streets below in dust as locals escaped, covering their heads. At around 1.20 pm local time, a 7.7-magnitude earthquake hit Myanmar, sending shock waves through neighbouring southeast Asia. Shortly after, a second earthquake with 6.4 magnitude was recorded, followed by multiple aftershocks. Ruili is located in the west of China's Yunnan province. The US Geological Survey has claimed the damage in Myanmar is 'widespread' and says 'thousands of deaths are likely'.
