The Army has been deployed in Tripura and Assam as a fierce debate rages over the contentious Citizenship (Amendment) Bill in the Rajya Sabha today. According to Colonel Aman Anand, an Army spokesperson, two columns have been dispatched to the Kanchanpur and Manu areas of Tripura. A third is on standby approximately a kilometre away from Bongaingon in Assam. One column consists of at least 70 soldiers and is led by one or two officers. Colonel Anand also said Field Commanders and the Army HQ were monitoring the situation closely.
