Congress retained the Baroda constituency with its candidate Indu Raj Narwal defeating BJP's Yogeshwar Dutt, an Olympian wrestler, with more than 10,000 votes in the November 3 bypoll. Winning the rural was seen as a prestige battle for Mr Hooda and a referendum on centre's farm laws which led to massive protests across bread basket states of Haryana and Punjab. Byelections were necessitated in Haryana's Baroda after the death of Congress MLA Shri Krishan Hooda, who had won this seat three times. This is the second consecutive loss for Mr Dutt, who had lost this seat in 2019 Assembly elections as well.
