Congress-JDS: Power Struggle?
It's been six days since the results of the Karnataka assembly elections, but the cliffhanger shows no signs of letting up. If the BJP had to face a floor test, it's now the turn of the Congress-JDS alliance. Can they pull it of? HD Kumaraswamy wrapped up power talks in Delhi tonight with top Congress leaders Rahul and Sonia Gandhi . He is to be sworn in on Wednesday at 4:30 pm -- but only with a small team of Congress and JDS MLAs. An indication of the pressures at play : 33 cabinet seats up for grabs: who will get how many? And how do they divide portfolios. Will there be two Deputy Chief Ministers as some in the Congress want, or one? Who will be the Deputy Chief Minister(s) of Karnataka? And also - crucially - will the house stay intact ahead of the Congress-JDS trust vote?
