Congress MP Shashi Tharoor On Delhi Station Stampede: “More Stringent Measures Need To Be Taken…”

Commenting on the stampede incident at New Delhi Railway Station, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor said, "It's a very sad situation. These are the kinds of human losses for which there is absolutely no compensation. We have seen an unknown number of deaths in the Kumbh Mela itself... Whenever we have an uncontrolled number of crowds, it seems that we are inviting such kinds of incidents. More stringent measures need to be taken because safeguarding human life should be the number one priority..." On the second batch of 119 deportees from the US, who arrived in Amritsar this morning, he said, " On these matters, they normally choose the destination which is most convenient for a majority of the people on these flights. I believe that the largest single group was from Punjab and Haryana and therefore this airport... I am not happy about the Americans choosing to send a military aircraft. I have not seen any report on whether these returnees were also handcuffed and shackled. If they were, we should definitely protest."
