Big legal and political moves were made by the Congress today in Rahul Gandhi's fight against his disqualification. Over a week after being convicted and sentenced to two years in jail in a criminal defemation case which resulted in Mr Gandhi's disqualification from the Lok Sabha, the Congress's legal team today made its first move. The Surat sessions court granted bail to Mr Gandhi in the "Modi surname" criminal defamation case and also suspended the sentence of two years. But the court has not yet stayed the conviction in the case which would restore his Lok Sabha membership.
