India Covid Surge: Daily Cases Cross 10,000-Mark

India has been witnessing a rapid surge in Covid cases, particularly in the past three weeks. The daily figure breached the 10,000-mark today while 15 related deaths were also related. Over 12,000 cases were reported today, the highest in three months. Another worrisome trend is that the weekly positivity rate has increased to 2.5 per cent. Covid among children have lately been a cause of concern which has led to a global push for vaccinating them. A government panel is expected to meet today to discuss different issues pertaining to vaccinations. The gap between the second dose and the booster dose is likely to be reduced from nine to six months. While there are also concerns over a new variant and a possible new wave, the government continues to emphasise on a five-fold surveillance strategy, including ramping up genome sequencing.
