Serum Institute of India CEO Adar Poonawalla says they can start shipping out COVID-19 vaccines in seven to 10 days once all formalities with the government are done. He said 50 million doses of the vaccine will be available initially, and they expect to roll out 70-80 million vaccine doses in around one-and-a-half month. Two vaccines for coronavirus, Oxford Institute's Covishield, which is being developed by the Pune-based Serum Institute of India, and Bharat Biotech's Covaxin, received emergency approval from the country's drug regulator today. "There are only three vaccines in the world who have proven efficacy... it's Pfizer, Moderna and Oxford-AstraZeneca, these are the only three vaccines which have been proven to work. Everything else has been proven to be safe, just like water. But the efficacy to know how well a vaccine works, 70 per cent, 90 per cent, 80 per cent, has only been proven in these three vaccines," Mr Poonawalla said.
