When BJP MP Tejasvi Surya made allegations of bribery involved in hospital bed allocations in Bengaluru, there was a sense of shock in the city which has over three lakh active Covid cases. As part of his drive, Mr Surya, accompanied by 3 BJP MLAs including his uncle, went to the south zone Covid war room. He read out a list of 17 Muslim workers. The names of those workers are being shared on social media and the issue took a communal turn. Some social media messages put the responsibility on BBM (Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike) Joint Commissioner Sarfaraz Khan who doesn't even work with the unit allotting beds. Mr Khan said that while he appreciates whistle-blowing against corruption, he was saddened by the communal turn the issue had taken. He spoke with NDTV's Maya Sharma.
