Thousands have died of COVID-19 inside the sealed wards and intensive care units (ICUs) of hospitals in the second wave of the pandemic. These deaths come with multiple layers of trauma. Due to Covid isolation rules, patients can't meet their families or loved ones. For the critically ill, it's healthcare workers - doctors and nurses - who are with them in their last moments. Doctors and nurses then have the emotionally agonising responsibility of breaking the awful news to the families, something they have to do almost every day.
