On the first day of vaccination against the coronavirus in India, 1.91 lakh healthcare workers were inoculated against a target of 3 lakh beneficiaries. Most states across the country achieved 50-60 percent of their targets. While Delhi had planned to vaccinate around 8,000 people, the actual number of vaccinations was around 4,000. Maharashtra had a target of vaccinating 28,000 people on the first day but over 18,000 people received the vaccine. The Union Health Ministry has not given any clarity yet on what led to the gap.
