For more than a month now we have seen protests across India against the CAA and the NRC. Some of these protests began violently but most settled down into peaceful demonstrations, some have been hijacked by the political opposition, but what has been remarkable about many of them has been the lack of a leader, and the participation of women, of students, of ordinary people reading out the preamble to the Constitution reminding those who have forgotten what India really stands for. The Prime Minister talks about India's democracy - he said the Indian way of conflict avoidance is not by brute force but the power of dialogue, but where is his dialogue with the students who don't agree with his government?
