After a meeting of top leaders to analyse Sunday's humiliating defeat in the RK Nagar by-election, Tamil Nadu's ruling party the AIADMK has expelled six senior functionaries, calling them "betrayers" for supporting sidelined leader TTV Dhinakaran. Mr Dhinakaran contested as an Independent candidate and won RK Nagar, the assembly seat of former chief minister J Jayalalithaa, by a margin of more than 40,000 votes over the party's senior leader E Madhusudanan.
