In an explosive turn of events Monday, Delhi Lt Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena has called for an anti-terror probe into allegations that Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal received political funding from the banned Sikhs For Justice group. Mr Kejriwal's Aam Aadmi Party has hit back swiftly calling it a "conspiracy" against the party.
The timing is also interesting as the Supreme Court has forewarned the Enforcement Directorate (ED) that it may "consider" granting interim bail to Mr Kejriwal in the excise policy case due to the ongoing Lok Sabha election. Now the hearing is slated for tomorrow. This is the latest in this long-running and fierce war between the AAP and the BJP in power at the Centre, and it comes less than three weeks before the national capital votes in the general election. In 2019, the BJP won all Delhi's seven seats. A sitting Chief Minister facing arrest was new to us, but now the same sitting Chief Minister also faces an NIA probe? How serious is that? What kind of political fallout it can have on the sentiment of voters, both in Delhi and Punjab?
