The Yamuna factor played a pivotal role in the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections, reshaping voter sentiment and helping the BJP make history by defeating AAP. A major shift came from Haryanvi-origin voters, who saw AAP’s stance on Yamuna pollution as an attack on their home state. The BJP secured 48 out of 70 seats, fielding 14 Haryanvi-origin candidates, of whom 12 emerged victorious. In contrast, AAP fielded 10 such candidates but won only four seats. In 13 constituencies with over 10% Jat voters, the BJP won 11 seats, marking a sharp turnaround from 2020. The party also dominated 12 of 13 seats where Haryanvi-origin voters make up more than 5% of the electorate and secured nine out of 11 seats in constituencies bordering Haryana.
