Scientists and researchers have warned there are signs the UK is in the early stages of a third wave. While numbers remain low currently, this could affect plans to lift lockdown later in June. Epidemiologist Deepti Gurdasani says the Delta variant, that was first detected in India, is now spreading in parts of the UK, and is seen to be more infectious than the Alpha variant which was the dominant variant in the second wave. The AstraZeneca vaccine has been found to be only 60% efficacious against the Delta variant.
