Development dries up Bhimtal lake
Haphazard development and illegal construction has led to the drying up of Bhimtal lake in Nainital. It's an oasis spot, now barren and dry. At 1,370 meters, Bhimtal flows smoothly but the silt from the ridges and mountains is depositing around it much faster than normal. Earlier the lake had massive bamboo forests around it. Now it's replaced by weed. The forests have been systematically cleared by illegal construction.
