Does Praising Pakistan Equal To Sedition?
Just last week we debated the issue of free speech and India's tough sedition law. That was after the Karnataka police registered a sedition case against Amnesty International for azadi slogans raised at their seminar. Here we are barely a week later looking at a similar debate. This time, actor-turned-politician Ramya, who praised Pakistan, now faces a sedition complaint filed by a lawyer. Now the big difference here is that no FIR has been filed yet. A court will hear the case next week. But what it tells us is how easily the sedition law can be misused. Ramya is standing by every word she said.
