Responding to a question on whether the US Presidential Election 2020 was a referendum on Republican Donald Trump's management of the coronavirus pandemic, Ambassador Leela Ponappa said we must wait for the picture to unfold, and that the pandemic and economy, both matter. "Even in 2016, it (Trump's win) was a shocker. It was the night demonetisation was announced...Some things matter to an electorate and some things don't; Covid matters. The divisiveness that has crept into US society is also showing in the voting," she told NDTV.
