Dr. Virendra Kumar, Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment, highlighted the commitment to enhancing accessibility in education and employment for people with disabilities. He emphasised that the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016, has increased reservations for the disabled in government jobs, government recognised schools and also widened the categories identified as disability from 7 to 21 categories. Dr. Kumar also highlighted the inclusivity embedded in the New Education Policy (NEP), ensuring textbooks for classes 1 to 6 are available in Indian Sign Language. He further discussed the diverse initiatives within the Accessible India campaign, aimed at making government services more inclusive.
