Durga Puja: Dhakis set the tone

If there is any one thing that sets the tone for Durga Puja from day one, it is the sound of the dhak or the traditional drum that is a must at every puja pandal. The dhakis who play them are poor, out-of-work farm labourers from rural Bengal, who take a break from sowing and reaping to come and drum to herald the arrival of the goddess.
