Election Process Begins In Jammu And Kashmir Amid Uptick In Terror Attacks

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh today convened an important meeting on the "rising" terror-related incidents in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. Meanwhile, an Army officer was killed in a gunfight that broke out between security forces and terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir Doda district on Wednesday. A terrorist was also shot down by the security forces. In recent months, Jammu has seen an increase in terror attacks, including an assault on an army convoy in Kathua and ambushes in Doda and Udhampur.  This has been a cause of concern. Security forces across Jammu and Kashmir have been placed on high alert ahead of Independence Day to ensure public safety. This comes even as The Election Commission is holding consultations with central government officials to assess the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir
