The government has said there are enough stocks of essential items ahead of the festival season. Consumer Affairs Secretary Nidhi Khare told NDTV that onion, for example, is being sold by the government at Rs 35 per kg in big cities, while the price has fallen to Rs 55 per kg in the national capital. Ms Khare said they will put more onion stock in the wholesale market, and take action against misleading ads. The government is working to keep a check on tomato prices, she said, adding new guidelines will be issued on misleading claims.
