Krishnaveni was brutally assaulted because she wanted to construct a public toilet in her village. Dr Selvarani is still struggling to be accepted as a doctor by the forward castes in her village. Though her scars don't show, Krishnaveni's wounds are open. But there is no trace of bitterness or anger in the life journey of these two remarkable women, only a sense of great pride in their achievements and in being Dalit. Their fighting spirit is inspiring many more Dalit women to speak out on issues that affect them.
