In May, the NEET & JEE examinations were postponed when the country was logging fewer cases daily. But now the government has decided to go ahead with the examinations when the daily case count is exploding and is the highest globally. Concerned students and parents moved court and the Supreme Court said that NEET and JEE exams would be held as per schedule. The matter is between the students and their government. Should the government be making the mistake of treating this as a flash-in-the-pan protests? Should students bow down to a determined government? Or should the government show compassion to at least attempt to work on solutions? Mehak Mittal, a JEE aspirant, tells NDTV, "I just want to ask a simple question to the government. Is one academic year more important or the lives of 25 lakh JEE & NEET aspirants? Who will take the responsibility if a student becomes COVID positive after the examination? Exams during covid is just like suicide."
