Exams in Local Languages: Experts Caution University Body

While the University Grants Commission has asked universities across India to permit students to take exams in local languages even if they are taught in English, many academicians are cautious. They say this is a failed model in India due to the many languages in the country and lack of adequate eco system in local languages unlike many other countries which have a singular language. NDTV's Sam Daniel spoke to a seasoned academician and three time Vice Chancellor Dr G Thiruvasagam who's now the Pro-Chancellor of AMET University. Explaining why this wouldn't bring about a qualitative change in the present form, he makes key suggestions to make this work if the UGC wants to have its way.
