Home minister Amit Shah claims the Supreme Court decision on electoral bonds will increase cash influx into the political system, which is bad in the longer run. On February 15, 2024, the Supreme Court of India struck down the Electoral Bond scheme, calling it 'unconstitutional'. In the formerly 'anonymous' donation system, BJP had emerged as the largest recipient of political donations with around Rs. 6060 crore worth of bonds encashed between April 2019 and February 2024; with Rs. 1771 crore during Lok Sabha elections.
