After budget carrier SpiceJet received a warning from the aviation regulator over a series of safety issues - 8 incidents in 18 days - Ajay Singh, the Managing Director of the airline told NDTV in an exclusive interview that "poor maintenance led to degradation of safety." Mr Singh said that just a month ago, the regulator had reviewed each aircraft owned by his airline for safety. "It is their (DGCA) job to regulate us. It is for us to show that we are 100 per cent safe. I welcome their concern," he said. The DGCA has pointed out big gaps on how the airline is functioning, from issues that point at "poor internal safety oversight" to vendors not being paid on time, leading to a shortage of spare parts for the SpiceJet fleet.
