The exotic vegetable market in Srinagar brings joy to progressive growers who play an important role in reviving traditional organic farming - a vital part of Kashmiri tradition. The government of J&K introduced the first organic vegetable market in 2021 at the Directorate of Agriculture in Srinagar's Lal Mandi. The market ensures that farmers can sell their quality products at a proper place and earn their livelihood in a proper way. Since the market opened, people got to know of the importance of exotic vegetables and farmers got good responses from customers. Experts in the agriculture department are focusing on promoting organic culture and educating people about the benefits of organic products including vegetables. Rising awareness has prompted a shift to organic food, as people, including in J&K, avoid chemical-laden vegetables and fruits, prioritising health and sustainability. The growers are very happy and are expecting a good response in the future.
