Amid the burning language row in Tamil Nadu, the state government has replaced the Indian rupee symbol with the Tamil letter for 'ru', which is the first letter of the Tamil word 'Rubaai' meaning rupee in Tamil in its logo for budget 2025-26, which will be tabled in the state Assembly on Friday. However, the change has raised concerns over whether the symbol, which is part of a legal tender, can be altered by state governments at will.
