Faceoff Over Funds: Battle For Fiscal Justice Or Politics?
The BJP and the Congress went head-to-head in Delhi today morning over allegations the Centre is withholding funds, including devolution of tax revenue and failure to release funds to combat drought in several districts, to the state government. Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman has said these are imagined numbers and Karnataka in fact has received over thrice of what it did under the UPA government. Will this issue of grants, finances, and the impact of freebies become more of a flashpoint in the run-up to Lok Sabha polls?
