Uttar Pradesh is currently off-limits for the leaders of the Opposition a day after eight people, including four farmers, were killed in violence in Lakhimpur Kheri on Sunday. Congress general-secretary Priyaka Gandhi Vadra and party leader Deepender Hooda are in police custody. Akhilesh Yadav, the former Chief Minister, was also detained as he tried to leave his house to go to Lakhimpur Kheri. Satish Mishra of the BSP was not allowed either and so was the Aam Admi Party delegation. Two Chief Ministers - Bhupesh Baghel and Charanjit Singh Channi - were also denied permission to land in Lucknow.
