Fighting Fake News Or Imposing Censorship?
New rules framed by the government on taking down fake news have been strongly criticised by the Editors Guild of India. A draft proposal by the IT ministry says that any piece of news that has been identified as "fake" by the fact-checking unit of the Press Information Bureau (PIB) -which is essentially the government's publicity wing/ will have to be taken down including from social media platforms.
