Massive flooding has been reported from Chiplun in Ratnagiri district of Maharashtra. Pictures from the town of Chiplun show several areas completely inundated. The local-market, bus station and railway station are all submerged. In nearby Khed tehsil, the Jagbudi River is also flowing above the danger mark. Flood alerts have been sounded in nearby areas. Teams of the National Disaster Response Force have been mobilised for rescue operations in Ratnagiri and Raigad districts. On this show, we look at how grave the situation is in the Konkan region of Maharashtra and whether these extreme weather patterns can be predicted, and the administration better prepared to handle such disasters.
