Responding to a question on whether special category status will be granted to Bihar, Sitharaman said "there have been talks that it has to be given, a decision will be taken on it whenever it will be taken."
Bharatiya Janata Party's ally, Nitish Kumar-led Janata Dal (United) have been demanding a special category status for Bihar in the backdrop of the findings from the cast-based survey in the state, which revealed that nearly one-third of the population continues to live in poverty.
Elections have been concluded in 24 of Bihar's 40 Lok Sabha constituencies. Polls in the state has spread across all seven phases from April 19 to June 1.
