Telangana is set to witness intense and competitive political activity today as as Home Minister Amit Shah and Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao will both unfurl the national flag in Hyderabad in separate "September 17" celebrations. On this day, the erstwhile Hyderabad State under the Nizam acceded to the Indian Union after an year after India attained independence. The BJP government has decided to celebrate it as Hyderabad Liberation Day, and the Telangana government has decided to celebrate it as Telangana National Integration Day, two separate events on the same day, in what is seen as competitive politics. Interestingly, Asaduddin Owaisi's party had also written to the Centre and the state government asking for the day to be celebration as National Integration Day and had a massive tiranga yatra yesterday. While Union home minister Amit Shah will unfurl the tricolour at Parade Ground, the chief minister will do it at Public Gardens on September 17. The state government has announced three days of celebrations.
