"Gaon, Gareeb Aur Kisan Our Focus," Says Nirmala Sitharaman In Budget

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharman, announcing the Union Budget for 2019-20 in Parliament on Friday, said that developing a pro-poor, pro-rural image is the focus of the government. "Gaon, Gareeb aur Kisan at the focal point of all our programmes," said Ms Sitharaman while announcing her first Budget. Ms Sitharaman, 59, is only the second women in the history of independent India to present the Union Budget. Former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi was the first and only women till now to have presented the Union Budget.
