Protests have erupted at the Gauhati University campus with a section of students locking down one of the gates of the administrative building after an alleged cash-for-marks scam was detected in Assam in which nine people have been arrested. The men, the police say, have been digitally tampering with mark sheets. The police stumbled on the scam during an investigation into the discrepancies in the marksheet of a student from Ganesh Lal Choudhury College, which is affiliated to Gauhati University. The police are widening the scope of the investigation, and more arrests are expected.
